Neuro-Linguistic Programming Training Courses

Having employees learn something from a training course is expected; to have them raving about what they’ve learnt is unusual.

One training company in the Midlands however, is energising its participants so much that their participants are bubbling over with their praise for what they’ve learnt:
"Nothing else I have ever done professionally has had such an amazing impact on me...inspiring and insightful. It will aid our company's success and my personal goals – I want MORE!" Anne Thomas, Co-Founder & Business Development Director, Wapple Net
"I have really enjoyed thinking about what makes me tick and what techniques I can apply to getting my dream! Something that has surprised me: that there are no boundaries if I truly believe in myself!" - Bal Jacob, HR Manager, Warwickshire Police "It is brilliant. Of all the courses that I have done, this is the most powerful for changing behaviour!" - Mick Grant, Project Manager, BECOME

The company at the heart of this sensation is The Learning Path, based in the beautiful grounds of Bordesley Hall in Alvechurch, Worcestershire. There, professionals working in fields as far apart as sales, teaching, hostage negotiation, sport, health, technology and design have been discovering new motivation, effectiveness, problem-solving abilities and creativity.

Its founder, Ellen Gifford explains, "We provide courses in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) which originated from research into how highly successful people achieve their results. At the heart of NLP is a wide range of methods and models which offer understanding in how people think, behave and change. It provides us with the equivalent of a user's manual for our brain."

Psychology Today described Neuro-Linguistic Programming as "the most powerful tool for change that exists today" and it is now recognised that NLP is one of the most effective means of developing both ourselves and others. The companies coming to The Learning Path are looking for an effective and focused approach to business development and know that to achieve this they need to give their employees techniques to help them keep an open mind, a willingness to explore new ways of thinking and empower them with a desire to make a difference in the market place.

Packaged in many different ways, NLP is essentially tools for success and its techniques demonstrate how we 'code' our experiences that influence the way we manage situations at work and in our daily life.

Ellen continues, "The great thing about NLP is that it recognises we are all different and by understanding why we do things in a particular way we can make changes more easily, learn and communicate effectively. In turn individuals and companies can become positive and fast-changing who are able to adapt to an ever-shifting world."

One company, Wapple Net, has worked with The Learning Path to encourage all its employees to use Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques to ensure their company keeps pace with the rapid advances in the mobile technology industry.

Its co-founder and business development director, Anne Thomas explains, "It is essential that we remain innovative and forward-thinking in our industry. We need to grab opportunities as they glimmer in the distance to remain at the forefront of the technology available and that means all our employees need to be confident that it can be done and that we are the ones to do it first.

"We decided that to make an impact on how we do things, we would invest in an NLP Business Practitioner course from The Learning Path for all of us in the company."

"I can only describe the difference to us as amazing. No-one felt they were learning; it was more of a self-discovery for each of us. Not only do we now understand how we work as individuals, we also understand how the others in our team are motivated and how they respond to situations and challenges.

"As trivial as it sounds, improved communication has been the major benefit from NLP. We are able to motivate each other and manage both people and projects more effectively by visualising situations as others do and making sure that the way we communicate suits the way their minds work."

So how did The Leaning Path come about? "I worked in sales, marketing and management in a number of industries and as part of my roles delivered training courses," explains Ellen. "Someone recommended that I might like NLP, so I looked into it, decided it sounded like advanced common sense and undertook a training programme to find out all about it. I immediately started incorporating the techniques into training courses such as presentation skills and customer service skills, and noticed a real difference."

"Back then I was undertaking a lot of work in 'change management' except no-one was calling it that back then! It was tough and most people took the approach of 'how are we going to make people do that?' Through NLP I understood that people were different and had the choices to adapt their behaviour and attain specific goals – they just needed techniques to help them understand them, visualise what they could mean and undertake change in the most appropriate way for them."

As well as regular open courses taking place at The Learning Path's headquarters at Bordesley Hall, they also provide unique, complimentary 'taster' days. When asked why she gives these sessions absolutely free, Ellen replied, "To read about NLP can be interesting. However, to actually try out some of the methods and techniques makes the impact of this methodology real and achievable. The majority of our 'bespoke' company training sessions come on the recommendation of someone who has been on one of our taster days."

Ellen is finding that more and more companies want their whole company or a team of people, for example the sales team, to experience The Learning Path's NLP training. "As Wapple Net discovered, when everyone in a company has had the same training, they can all 'sing from the same hymn sheet'. Communication becomes more effective as managers and colleagues can tailor the way they express themselves to the leaning styles of other members in the team.

"Learning techniques to visualise yourself in a particular situation, and remembering positive outcomes from past experiences can help employees become more confident, empowered and ready to take on challenges they previously felt unable to take on.

"Courses can be held wherever is best for the organisation: at their own premises, here at Bordesley Hall or at a third party venue."
